Just finished Act III

Spoiler for Hiden:
I wish they hadn't named the last chapter 'Brothers Until the End'. It totally telegraphed what was about to happen.

I also found this to be an odd decision.

Big Head mode is pretty stupid. It obscures zoom aiming pretty badly. Did about 2 matches of it then went back to normal.

To Act 4 chapter 2.

Shame the game left a few questions for the story unanswered, and aping Call of Duty in it presentation and story choices is a bit lame, but I found this game to be a satisfying conclusion to the story arc, with an epic (heh) boss battle at the end.

Finished last night.

Great game. Appropriate ending.  Wish they had done a few more levels based around other supporting characters like they did for cole.

As for the queen...

Spoiler for Hiden:
it could be marcus' mom as the fiction states she just disappeared..and she was a scientist...maybe she discovered the locust and wanted to protect them.  This makes no sense tho given her attempts to kill him throughout the game...unless she was captured and tortured and brainwashed or something.

Also, Marcus' hair should have had more grey. slywink

Nonna, M4ck3r, Chiward, Wnichols and I pounded through all 50 levels of Horde last night in 3.5 hours.  We played on Normal and it wasn't easy, but not too too hard either.

Was a good time.

Which map were you guys on?

I've found that the map makes a big difference in the difficulty, especially after level 30.

Gridlock I believe. The one where you slowly sink as you advance levels. Middle high ground with a long corridor on each side.

What an incredible night for gears.  Had my most kills ever in a match (20), met up with nonna, macker and chi and blazed through some beast mode (my first real time playing that mode.  Its brilliant).  Then we did 4 player coop arcade on insane and ended the night with more beast mode.

What a complete and completely wonderful package gears 3 is.

Went 32-7 and 11-0 in back to back matches on a run that saw me go 180-60 through the night which is obscene for me.

So in love with this game.  And new DLC soon!

I would not be buying MW3 when it releases if it weren't for the MP curve.

Finally beat the game last night, and I'm glad I did.  It is one of those series that I'm happy with where it went and how it wrapped everything up.  I could empathize with the characters and their situation too.  Overall, Gears 1,2,and 3 tell a decent story.

On the strength of one of the most dominant nights of multiplayer gaming I've ever had, I'm just 10 kills from hitting 1.7 in my K/D. A goal I've been working towards for a few weeks now.

Last night, I was nearly untouchable: 141-35 and didn't lose a match.

New maps today! New DLC in a few weeks.

Sooooooo good!

Played into act 3 of Raam's shadow dlc and so far a solid B.  Playing as Raam is the highlight so far.  The environments are nice, but it would have been great if epic had put collectibles into the maps like the full game to reward exploration.  Cog tags too.  I like the new characters for the most as well and its cool to be chillin with Lt Kim again.

Also 12 days of Gearsmas began yesterday.  Candy cane Gnasher skin?  Yes, please!

Everyone will be glad to know that gears 3 has passed gears 1 in my top ten most played games based on 360 voice!

Its now number 6 with only COD titles in front of it.

Never really played Gears 2 much beyond the campaign (which I finished twice: once when it came out, once just before 3).

New DLC January 17.

Adds prestige type capabilities. I'm level 85 and will probably hit 100 just in time to re up when the DLC hits.  New maps and new character skins too.  A winnar is me!

The support for this game has been great.

The disappointment that is GOWJ MP has me wanting to resurrect this thread.

I've been playing it again pretty steadily for the past 2 months (after about 9 months off) and the game is still an almost perfect MP experience.

I've only 15 levels on the last prestige before I level max.

The game still has a solid number of players though you do see lots of names over and over and the competition is appropriately fierce- but there is no problem getting full rooms.  Some new blood has come in in recent weeks in the run up to GOWJ's release so that's been nice.

Seeing what they've done to the MP in GOWJ makes me realize just how varied the MP experience in 3 and prior entries is. There's a lot of tactics happening (almost unconsciously since I've played it so much) that are missing in the new game and ALL of the weapons have their uses.  There are effective counters for just about everything and there's almost no camping whatsoever (though people do bottleneck in certain parts of the maps).

That said, I'm not yet ready to give up on GOWJ, but I do know that unless they reset MP completely, it will never live up to this game.  It just doesn't have the personality or soul of it its predecessors and the third entry was the culmination of the series.

I love you Gears of War 3.

9. Blood Drive
10. Overpass
11. Drydock
12. Azura
13. Clocktower
14. Mercy
15. Rustlung

Please note, ATB, that the order of this list is subject to change as you get more play time with the booster pack.

1.   Hotel - Great open spaces, great close quarters. Great power weapon placement
2.   Clocktower - Nice symmetrical design. War all over the map.  Spawn trapping can happen
3.   Azura - A huge map with many flanking routes and angles of attack
4.   Academy - Huge map that has great range battles and many ways to flank
5.   Gridlock - One of the original GOW1 maps, still a favorite. Always great battles
6.   Trenches - Have always loved it and still do. Great verticality and variety.
7.   Bulletmarsh - A fun map with different levels, but the easiest to get spawn trapped which absolutely sucks
8.   Sandbar - Great verticality. Fun battles for power weapons.  Easy to get spawn trapped
9.   Anvil – A sprawl that makes for good combat all over the map. Good range and close quarters battles
10.   Old Town - Great range battles and fights for power weapons
11.   Blood Drive – Good verticality and flank routes. Varied battles in all locations. Spawn trapping can occur
12.   Thrashball – Great close quarters fighting and range combat. Good weapon variety and environmental dangers
13.   Slab - Confined and narrow. Good angles of attack. Very fast map
14.   Checkout  - Good open areas and obstacles, lots of varied ways to kill and be killed.
15.   Overpass – Becomes a battle for the high ground very quickly. Can be fun, but also very frustrating
16.   Depths - There's only two paths across the map and they are both choke points. Doesn't mesh well with my style of play
17.   Rustlung - Have always struggled on it and usually still do
18.   Ravendown - Sloppy shottie gang banging. Never liked this map, can be competitive on it, but rolleyes whenever it comes up
19.   Mercy - Now my least favorite by far. Have always been bad on it and seem to have gotten worse. I physically groan every time it comes up.
