They are not space marines.  They are COG (Coalition of Ordered Governments) Soldiers.

Get your terminology right !!!

Plus didn't they grow up on the planet this occurs on? It's not like they traveled on a ship to get there, unless I am mistaken.  icon_lol

The trailer was "meh" to me, I mean it was interesting but I hate when trailers don't show gameplay. I know, it's a launch trailer, but give us something.

same vein as the 'Mad World' trailer. More emphasis on art than actual game play etc. Noticed 2 new guns- 2x barrel shotgun and some other rifle with a blade on the end.
Will play for sure - I like the series even before this trailer.

Yeah it's all in-game footage so it's kind of like showing gameplay I guess.  I think we all know pretty much what we are going to get by now.  Honestly if they give more of the same with 4 way co-op and drop in/drop out horde mode I'll be happy.  I also love how they include bots for all of the multiplayer modes.  I wish more console shooters did that.

I doubt that was in-game footage, it was using the in-game engine yes but what we were seeing wasn't gameplay.

I don't espect any huge changes from the formula but I wouldn't mind seeing some of the levels.

Looks like they're pulling a Halo with yet another crazy infectious and mutating monster army with swarmy elements.  Roll Eyes

Dom's got his man beard going on and a serious case of deathwish going on.  And hey look, a female COG soldier to add some estrogen to this sausage party.

And if it were on the PS3 you'd be the first one telling us how awesome it is.

What I generally refer to as "The Flood twist" has been the plot twist du jour for a while, unfortunately. It was in Uncharted, which was a PS3 game, FWIW. However, this particular theme already existed in Gears 2.

Wino, it's 2010, the fanboy wars are over man.  Get with the times.

Resistance 1&2 was all about that, sadly.  Theirs was an interesting take with purposefully infected soldiers and such, but they completely failed to deliver.

And it's likely even Killzone 3 will pull the same stupid cliched twist with those weird lightning bugs or something based on it that they setup in KZ2.

Just because something stupid is on one console or another, doesn't mean it's not stupid.  slywink

That said, I'm interested in Locusts as potential allies, as it gives us an opportunity to see more of what they are.  But, I'm just not satisfied that they had to pull a "Flood" to do it, just like Halo.  And yes, I was thinking this while playing Gear 2 when the Lambent first appeared, I turned to my friend playing co-op and just plainly said, they brought the Flood into Gears.

Man am I ever tired of The Flood.  It plagued all three Halo games, and now why did they have to get Flood into my Gears?  I'll still play it though, mainly to be able to chainsaw those Flood bastards.   ninja2

GI cover

I love that cover. It shows so much of what is wrong with the Gears of War style. I can imagine the chick shouting "What the fuck? Stop posing for the goddamn camera and do your damned jobs! We're under attack!"

For the record, I've played through both games and enjoy the gameplay. I just don't enjoy the characterization at all.

That kind of style is one reason I like the Gears games.  They don't waste time with over dramatic dialog. I like it better than characters going off on long inane diatribes while they are being shot at.

What the hell are you talking about?

The little dialogue that is in the Gears of War games (and yes, they do speak during combat) is inane, juvenile poorly written and overacted. With so little dialogue to create, you'd think the developers would actually want to make it compelling. Come on, how many of you got teary-eyed during that "sad moment" in Gears of War 2 (you know the one I mean)? Nobody? Yet you can probably tell that the developers wanted you to be, right? What does that tell us about their writing skills?

That whole storyline felt out of place and poorly handled.

when my 360 RRoD'd.

it was a very emotional moment.

I got teary eyed in both when I saw how amazing they looked.  Gears is what next gen is all about, visually, at least.

I am saying that in the Gears games the story doesn't get in the way of playing the game.  Unlike alot of shooters I have been playing lately.  I think the fact that Gears is designed to be played co-op keeps the cut scenes and long dialog sections to a minimum (with the earlier mentioned exception.)  Many games have have weak stories and bad dialog.  If the story is bad, at least keep it brief.

Christ, either things have gone mega tits up or they have thought of putting in a shitload more...as the original Spring Date is still 5-6 months off,and now its 12 months off(as they say they wanna make it for a Holiday title,so that's the latter part of Fall, right?)

maybe make way for that Bulletstorm?which is to be released in February, is a spring release too close for EPIC?

I think this is more of a sign that something else went wrong with another game, so they are moving Gears 3 from an already crowded early year schedule to take the holiday slot instead.

or

Killzone 3 looks so fantastic that its scared EPIC

LOL
i am sure there will be more reasons out there soon

I agree.  If someone were to tell me that of all games, Gears of War would have the best companion novels I would have laughed at them.  But the books are very solid reading IMHO.
