i played some Versus MP and was quite surprised that i liked it,i have never liked past Gears Multiplayer

not far into the story, but even with the 'previously on Gears' thing,i am a little lost with what is going on having just played Gears 1 and 2 over the weekend to catch up,was there a book/novel or something set after Gears 2 and before Gears 3?

Gears of War books

Quote
Gears of War: Aspho Fields ...  focused on the history of the characters and the battle at Aspho Fields, but also took place during the events between Gears of War and Gears of War 2.
...
Gears of War: Jacinto's Remnant, continued where Gears of War 2 left off
...
Gears of War: Coalition's End, released on August 2, 2011, is the fourth novel in the series, taking place immediately after the events of Anvil Gate; 18 months after the end of the second game. The novel details the COG's struggle with the Lambent attacks on the island of Vectes, and leads directly into Gears of War 3.

Played Horde mode for two solid hours last night and had a great time.  I love scrambling around trying to get in your repairs and upgrades in the 30 seconds between rounds.  We got to wave 30.  The boss waves are really brutal.

I always figured coop was for after you had beat the game and wanted to play through again, then you can take your time looking for stuff and poking in nooks and crannies and listening to dialogue playing SP.

I am kind of the same way.  I like to enjoy the first time through as it seems too many times with coop that either one person has already done it, knows everything and/or others are in a hurry to race through without enjoying the moment.  But I will mix in some MP before I finish single player.. most likely just not coop past the part I am on in a solo run.  Horde, Beast, and any versus type matches are fair game though

you guys are playing the wrong coop games I think!  (or with the wrong partners)

Aside from the very beginning first 1-2 minutes where players 2-4 are spectating it's all pretty seamless.  In addition you can get xp doing the campaign if you do coop arcade mode campaign.

I'm not one to do campaign multiple times generally (if I even do it once).  Coop is the way to get me to play the campaign. smile

Then of course there are games that assume you're going to play as coop through the campaign.  Borderlands, Dead Island and this one appears much the same.

Got a few minutes with co-op mp with Lockdown last night (Good playing with you LD smile ), but the GF needed a ride and my gaming was done for the evening.     Hopefully, will get some play time this evening.  It's real seamless when someone joins.  I paused the game to answer my GF call and I noticed that LD had joined me... I was about 2 minutes into my call when I noticed, so it was pretty seamless

Maybe a little too seamless. I paused to shut down and noticed that Hark was in my party. But I don't know if was actually playing with me or not and don't know how long he was there.

been playing some more team deathmatch and definitely getting more used to it,i am still pretty crap, but i have managed level 10,most of the maps i have played have been quite good, but at the moment it is always the same 4-5 maps, not even sure of there are anymore

I have only finished Act 1 of the Campaign up to now but I've been a little disappointed
Spoiler for Hiden:
I wasn't keen on the group swapping and killing the enemies from Lost Planet started to get pretty tedious, although Act 2 has started and it looks like it may get back to proper Gears style gaming...i hope so anyway

I'm not sure how you even know who is in your co-op game with you unless you pause the game and go look.  Maybe I'm missing something.  I think co-op play is the only thing that will get me through the campaign, no matter how good it is.  Haven't had a chance to play with Soul in a long time.

I also played one little warmup game of King of the Hill with Bots.  It seems Epic has programmed them so that I can now take my hatred of shotgun-toting real life assholes, and channel that loathing to shotgun-toting Bot assholes as well.

Moriarty joined my game tonight and there was a message in the lower left of the screen, so it is there if you notice it. Also the character name changes to the gamertag if you hold down LB.

Played about 30 mins of campaign. So far so good.

Did an hour+ of horde with 3 other d00dz. Was a hoot.

Have done some quick match MP. The days of being competitive in it are loooong gone me thinks.

Overall A+ package so far.

Now if someone would just buy my savage kantus code.... disgust

I looked around to see if anyone was online the past couple of nights, but only saw about 2-3 playing the campaign, so I didn't get to try any MP.  I'm Pyperkub there as well, FWIW (usually not available until after 6:30 PST on weeknights).  Maybe we need to get the Friday night MP session going...

Played through the entire campaign with a friend and we both agree that this is the game of the year. So much fun, and it has legs. I was really hoping that Dead Island would have been as intense as some of the segments in Gears, my friend and myself literally walked through Dead Island and only finished it because we were hoping it would have gotten better. Here's a hint; it didn't.

I enjoyed the campaign in DI far better than GOW3, and I'm only halfway through DI and finished GOW3.

Open world and doing quests if far more satisfying than an 'on-rails, click three things, then click two things, now kill boss then click two things' campaign for me.  They also failed to explain something that I was hoping would get explained.

Don't know, but someone bought mine for $20 as well.

Overall I think campaign is good so far. I'm about 1/2 way complete.

Multiplayer has been up and down for me. Shotguns seem to again be the central focus point of the game and I don't love that.

Looking forward to trying some horde this weekend.

Agreed.  It's still gears. All shotguns all the times..and so far the knowledge of spawns is not good enough to where there's the variety you were talking about.

Horde is a hoot.  I love what they've done with it. I'm in.
