Thanks to... someone on QT3 that I forget at the moment.

Haven't booted viva pinata for a couple of days.  I have some free time now, so I'll put some hours in soon.  Or I'll work on finishing FEAR.  One of the two.  So many games.

Depward just pointed this out to me about 30 minutes ago, and I am now dling it! Unfortuntely, my internet sucks and I am only at 5%. Hopefully after I get home from my dinner date with my girlie tonight, it will be dled-Jarrod and the gang-about 10ish EDT for a game good for you?

Should be good for myself.  No plans atm.  Did take forever to download.  I'm sure the servers are being hammered for this demo.

As usual my fucking awful internet screwed up again and I got disconned from live about 20% in-then it took me 3 tries of starting and stopping when I got home (3 hours of dling lost) to get it started again and I am now stuck on 22%-I dont think I will be ready till about midnight EDT if anyone is still around then frown

I was having issues with Live tonight also.  Voice messages weren't sending properly and I couldn't connect to Jarrods game (did manage to connect to another open game though).  I know every now and then my download speed from XBL will take forever, usually when a popular demo is just released.

Got in a few rounds last night on a 14 player server.

Map they shipped with it is pretty slick. Very open ended and large. I loved camping the end of the rappel lines on the casino floor and blowing away guys as they rap'ed in. Also got a nice headshot kill on someone who thought they'd be clever and reverse rappel down a window  icon_biggrin

Attack and Defend seems like it will be a welcome change from 'charge at each other and throw frags' from the previous R6 online gameplay.

Models/Textures seemed like crap, but I figure its due to download size (its already nearly a gig). Played with the PEC stuff, and I'm amazed at the level of customization. Face, Accessories, body armor, and clothing can all be changed, and the camo pattern on clothes/armor can also be changed.

Weapon selection seemed varied, proabably about as many as GRAW.

Should be a great time when it comes next week.

Anyone tried the Co-op yet? Does the demo even support the Co-op modes? I guess I could just go download it and check for myself, but I would like to hear some impressions.

Co-op ftw!

So I played briefly at 5am after my download had finally completed. I was unlucky enough to find a game with pretty bad lag and not enough players so it affected my enjoyment, but first impressions:

+ The level was large, well designed, and looked good.
+ The cover mechanic works very well
+ The game is very tactical. You might be able to get hit 3 times, if you are lucky-but you die fast if you do anything as stupid as standing out in the open
+ You can tell that the game is going to promote really good, aggressive squad based tactics.
+ Character customization is closed to unparalleled for this type of game

- The single player graphics were really really good. The graphics in this demo were really really not. Lets hope the download size screwed the textures, because, in PC terms the SP demo felt like playing at 1600x1200 while the MP demo felt like playing at 640x480. No, I am not exaggerating. The fonts were huge, the kill messages took up way too much screen space, the textures were blurry and blocky. Lets hope it looks better in the final release (in fact, I want to go test this now and see how much better the SP looked).
- Really does look like you need a large group of people to get an enjoyable objective based game going.
- Tactics hard when your team is't friends, etc. People don't work together.

Huh.  Calvin and others have said the same thing about the graphics.  I really don't see it.  Maybe i just haven't played the singleplayer demo recently, but it looks decent to me.  Doesn't look as good as Gears of course.

Gameplay-wise I liked it overall.  I'm having trouble adjusting to the spray pattern with the guns.  That may have something to do with not finding the 'right' gun for my personal taste, or slow reflexes, or both.  Was frustrating last night to get the drop on people and let a burst loose at them, only to get dropped by 2 shots in return.  Also might have something to do with not bothering to set my armor config up since it is lost every time you load the demo.

Have to say the first time someone popped up on the roof of the hotel within 30 seconds of starting a round took me by surprise.  Of course from then on I made a point of dropping that person everytime they showed up there.  That was satisfying.

Another thing that kept me from having as much fun last night was that the group playing seemed determined to make the game as close to a high-speed run and gun as they could.  Putting large time pressure on an attacker, who is already at a disadvantage owing to position is not terribly fun for me.  I'll look forward to playing with folks more inclined to take time to set up strategies and adjust equipment, rather than calling ready up at people if they take more than 10 seconds to sort things out.

I did get to see tear gas used, and it is fairly effective.  Doesn't keep people from running into grenades, but it does force you to take a different route, wear a gas mask, or wait its duration out.  When I was poking around I didn't find the way to unrestrict those items, but it is obviously possible.  Not sure how the gps locator works.

Definitely need to see which weapons support burst-fire mode.  I think that will prove more useful in this game than most shooters.  Silencers are nice as always, not sure if the laser sight really does anything useful.  Seems like the targetting reticule you get takes the place of that item already.  Maybe it makes bullet-groupings tighter.  <shrug>

All in all I'm still looking forward to the game with a lot of anticipation.

You also need to play it for more than 15 minutes to understand how it plays. Its a tactical shooter-it takes getting used to. It took me a good hour to get comfortable and really start enjoying it. The graphics remained pretty bad, however.

This game ships today, but if it doesn't hit stores does anybody want to play some of the MP demo tonight?

I only just got it downloaded and got to try it yesterday and it wasn't long enough to really get into it.

Plus I didn't get to setup my character before hand so I was just a generic ugly bald guy in green fatigues with no armor of any kind. Not having any armor really makes it hard to survive when people want to run through the level as fast as they seemed to last night frown

Yeah, lack of armor really hurt me the last time I played.  Didn't feel like taking the time to set everything up when I knew it would reset after I exited the demo.  I could be convinced to play some tonight.  I'm definitely in the mood for a slower paced play.  Maybe just some 4 person co-op runs to get the feel for the different weapons and such.

IN! for 4-player Co-Op.

If you see me online (I know it's rare), and you are running a co-op mission, invite me.  I won't ignore you guys like I do when you want me to play Gears.  R6:Vegas is much more my style.   icon_wink

I should have my copy by 6pm.  I'd prefer versus mode, not traditional coop but I'll play whatever we end up doing.

Just found out that when you are talking in-game, enemies can hear you if you are close to them.
