Here's another "old-school RPG" Kickstarter for a Wizardry-style game from Tom Hall and Brenda Brathwaite.

Quote
Shaker: An Old School RPG is a first-person perspective, fantasy/sci-fi game set in a Bridge world between the future and the very distant medieval past. Taking the role of operative James Connelly (you may also customize your lead character), an employee of Shaker Corporation, you are called upon to set right a deadly chain of events that began millennia ago. You and your crew of 3 operatives will be deployed to Antera, a medieval, fantasy world in the distant past. There, under a feudal guise, you must unearth the very beginning of a horrible chain of events and avert it, or the universe we know today will cease to exist in a mere 100 years.

The kickstarter got off to a shaky start as they had next to no details at first.  Now that the Project Eternity kickstarter is over, this might pick up, but they're only a quarter of the way to the million dollar goal with 18 days to go.

This is a doomed Kickstarter. They've only gotten about 30k in pledges since last week, and that's being generous. The whole campaign was horribly mismanaged, and now they're paying the price. It wasn't just that there was little information, but the information they did release wasn't at all what people wanted to hear about (what use is a long backstory if we don't even know what kind of game this is?). There's more info out there now, but I'm still very confused about what the gameplay is going to be like, and I feel like they've lost their window to impress everyone.

Between Hall and Braithwaite, it's got the stink of The Romero on it.

Edit:  Romero is involved, at least tangentially.  Interesting that they're not pushing that angle harder.  Or perhaps it's best that they don't.

John Romero is becoming the king of bad marketing, it seems.

You can also go really old-school with the Grimoire "Kickstarter".  Of course, it was actually new-school when it started development slywink

Hasn't this been under construction for the better part of a decade? Or more? And I swear I read that 'in response to beta testing, we'll increase the resolution to 1024x768'. ...what decade IS he making this for?

I remember looking forward to the one of the game's first announced release dates - October 31, 1999.

Guess this shows gamers have at least some restraint for throwing money at and kickstarter that comes along.
