Does anyone else feel like going absolute ape shit when they hear this word or see it printed someone on a web site? Because I do, it drives me up the wall. When this word is used its usually in a negative manner and results in verbal conflict. And when I say it to my self "Fanboys" it just gives me a head ache. I just wanted to know what you guys think of this word. I see it all over gaming sites and what not, luckily I havent seen it here yet and hopefully I wont

It's cheap, it's easy, and it's guaranteed to produce the desired result. There is no defence against it since arguing the case just digs the hole a little deeper.
As a result I feel the word is so overused it has lost all meaning. It's just trolling.
Still, it's better than "fanboi."

luckily I havent seen it here yet and hopefully I wont I don't think you've been paying enough attention. It all depends on the connotation. Hell, I freely admit that I am an fanboy of many things (Star Wars, Final Fantasy, my PS2, etc.), and I have no problem when other people call me on it. However, when 'fanboy' is used to mean a rabid, seething, bile-spewing, unreasonable jerk, then it becomes a problem.

If they deny that they are one then we all know alcoholics live in denial. Their denial becomes a symptom of the problem. It's like watching a cat chase its tail. It goes round and round.

I agree-its just trolling at this point. I mean, think about it logically-what does it really say? "Rage, your perfectly valid opinion on XYZ doesn't matter because we all know what a big fan of XYZ you are!"
Just silly.

I don't mind being called a fanboy. What's really wrong with absolutely loving something? Because there are basically two versions of fanboy: 1) The Good- ie "absolutely loving something." Nothing wrong with that and everyone has something that they hold dear to them well out of proportion of what others think. 2) The Bad- irrational love to the point that not only will you not even listen to potential criticisms of the product in question but you must constantly put down the product's competitor. The bad fanboy is also characteristic of someone who feels that their irrational and complete love is somehow the objective truth and therefore insists that differing opinions are factually incorrect. For example, I am a Metal Gear fanboy but I would lable myself the "good" kind. I totally understand why the series isn't everyone's cup of tea and wouldn't hesistate to recommend someone to the "competition" (ie Splinter Cell or Thief) if I thought that was a better fit for their sensibilities. However you will find plenty of "bad" fanboys who wouldn not only trumpet Metal Gear's greatness but are unable to resist simultaneously posting about how Sam Fisher sucks or some such shit. Also- by someone calling you "fanboy" its just a shorthand to say that your opinions have no merit and should be completely discounted. So its not hard to see why that's offensive.

I don't mind being called a fanboy. What's really wrong with absolutely loving something? It's not the "loving something" that brings in the Rage, ( pun intended , it's the lack of respect for that persons ability to use critical thinking to determine what is just their own appreciation for the product, and the inability to recognize the flaws. A fanboy is as annoying as a parent who's "little Johnny" can do *NO* wrong. I don't label myself a fanboy; if someone wants to critizice my opinion and they bring valid points, I may concede based on the facts provided. I love Dynasty Warriors, but it is (for a lot of people) the same game repackaged over and over again. And it's a repetitive beat-em-up with some performance issues that loses a lot of people in the names and bad english voice-overs. Am I still loving the game? Fuck yeah! Those facts don't negatively impact my enjoyment of the game. I may be "gay" for Dynasty Warriors, but I know why, and am able to see flaws. My name is Justin, and I am *NOT* a fanboi. The more you know... "gay" is used in the last season of the Simpsons as a popular phrase in the future. eg. Hetz is gay for xbox360, Knightshade is gay for tactical military shooters, or U2K is gay for many obvious reasons. No wait, strike that last one.

I already used it to describe Hetz I think it's perfectly acceptable but if you go to forums like Gamefaqs then you'll see it so overused that it means absolutely nothing anymore. You probably don't see it here so much because most people own more than one console and therefore aren't really fanboys.

I just thing the wording "fanboy" is stupid.
I would rather be called a fan of Playstation, Playstation Addict, A Guy Who Loves Playstation A Whole Lot.
Right, you get the idea.
Sites like 1up.com and there users extremely over use the word Fanboy, and I dont like it

You have to remember that the average age on those sites is about 14 years old. Would you enjoy hanging around with a 14 year old in real life? No? Well it's best not to do it on a forum either. I go to Gamefaqs when I need a FAQ and that's about it.

Let's see. Fanboy = Someone who loves a company or certain game but hates practically every other one. Ex of a Halo 2 fanboy: Dude Halo teh ROOOOCCKKSS!!!!!!!! Someone: Hey, what about Mario? Fanboy: DUDE! THAT ****ING SUCKS YEAHHHHH halo PWNNNSSSSSS mario... Someone: I like Sonic the hedgehog! Do you? Fanboy: Sonic's a stupid blue rat YEAHHH master chief can KILL SONIC AND ALL THE OTHER RATS. I hope there aren't any fanboys here. They're annoying. However ------ Some guy: OMG!!! I can't wait till Halo 3 comes out! I GOTTA GET IT! My room is haloinated! I can't wait to add that new poster to my collection! That's just a hyper and happy, Halo fanatic. Probably not a fanboy unless he thinks everyone else sucks. Fanatics are ok, most of them aren't hyper. I'm a Ratchet & Clank "fanatic." But I don't go wild about it unless there'd be a PS3 Ratchet game.

I believe Insomniac is workig on a new series for PS3. Yep, I8 or whatever it was called. FPS that wa previewed during Sony's E3 conference. If they stay true to form they won't come back to Ratchet. Insomniac did 3 Spyro games for the PSX then gave up the franchise and moved on and did 4 Ratchet games for PS2. Naughty Dog did the same in moving from Crash to Jak & Daxter. Ratchet might live on (like Spyro and Crash) but there's a pretty good chance it won't be with Insomniac behind them.

I've never played a Ratchet game before, so I'll have 4 to play, but then all the people that have played them will be all sad.

I think LE is to fanboys what Archie Bunker is to racists- he hates everything, so he actually turns out 'fairer' than most people Just kidding, LE, we all love you. You really are the anti-fanboy, however. I remember a few times I was still drunk in my 'new game high', and you were saying a game wasnt such and such. And, it turned out that in the long run you were right. You were harshing my mellow, however
