Though Microsoft attempted to squash us with their oppressive DRM heavy Xbox One, Sony emerged as a Hero of the People. By swiping away Microsoft’s capitalist schemes, the Playstation 4 has proven itself worthy to be awarded the the Great Red Star of the Proletariat.

Gearbox sued by 3D Realms over Duke Nukem Forever royalties

Word came down that 3D Reams, the folks who created venerable shooter franchises Wolfentein and Duke Nukem, has filed a suit against Gearbox Software. 3D realms claims to be owed $2 million in unpaid royalties.

It seems like a lot of people have been bemoaning the death of the horror genre lately. Modern gaming, they claim, has abandoned true horror games in favor of shooters which merely attempt to scare. Indeed, this attitude is so widespread that one of the marketing taglines for Shinji Mikami’s upcoming return to the genre is #BringBackHorror

Xbox One will only work in select countries at launch

If you’re looking to get an Xbox One , you’ll want to make sure that you live in a country where you’ll have access to all the features available. According to Microsoft’s twitter account, even users who import their consoles from the authorized nations will be unable to play disc-based games until the Xbox One is available in their region.

EA Exec says new Mirror’s Edge will be open world

Speaking in an analyst phone call, EA Exec Frank Gibau mentioned that the upcoming parkour-based action game will be set in an open environment.

The original Mirror’s Edge was a very linear action title, so we’ll have to see how they fit Faith into an open world. Look to see more information about Mirror’s Edge coming soon from EA.

Today has been confusing for those of us eagerly awaiting the next game from acclaimed Team ICO, developers of ICO and Shadows of the Colossus. Speaking earlier this morning with Spike TV, Sony Executive Jack Tretton claimed that the long-awaited Last Guardian is ‘on hiatus.’

Nintendo’s Youtube channel reveals trailer and title for new 3DS Zelda

Select Asian Markets to get Xbox One in 2014

The Xbox One is launching in North America during the holiday season, but it seems Asia will have to wait a bit longer. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft Regional VP of Sales and Marketing in Asia (fit that title on a business card, sheesh!) explained that the Xbox One will only be available in select Asian markets.

Director’s cut of Deus Ex: Human Revolution coming to all current platforms

Happy news out of E3: the latest update for Deus Ex: Human Revolution isn’t going to be a Wii U exclusive. Yes, the Director’s Cut will be coming to the PS3, the Xbox 360, and the PC. There’s very little info about this except the multi-platform reveal, but we do know that we were promised “overhauled” boss battles. Considering the biggest complaint leveled with DX: HR was the jarring boss battles, you can bet this has us at GT excited!

New Destiny trailer is vividly beautiful

For all the faults one could level at the Halo franchise, blandness was never one of them. While other shooters got increasingly boring and brown, Bungie’s central franchise remained full of vivid purples, oranges, greens, and pinks. Based on what we’ve seen at E3 this year, it looks like Destiny will retain that beautiful mis-en-scene. Check out the first trailer below if you don’t believe me!

Trials Frontiers brings Trials action to mobile platforms

The Trials franchise is coming to mobile platforms! According to Ubisoft at their Monday afternoon press event, Trials Frontiers allows…

…for the Trials competition to follow players wherever they go, since both games will be connected. Developing the newest iteration in the Trials franchise was a natural move for RedLynx, a Ubisoft studio, who also is behind the success of the other popular mobile titles Draw RaceTM 2 and MotoHeroz®.

No word on platform, but it’s a safe bet that iOS will at least get some good dirtbike action. We’ll be keeping track of this as more info becomes available later in the week, but in the mean time, check out the screenshots below.

Ubisoft brings the pain to next gen with Trials Fusion

The Crew brings multiplayer open world racing back onto the stage

Gaikai to stream “critically acclaimed” PS3 games to PS3, PS4, Vita

In their Monday night press event, Sony announced that they will be streaming a portion of their back catalog of games. Very few details are available yet, but we do know that certain “critically acclaimed” PS3 games will be available for streaming for the Ps3, the PS4, and the Vita.

Ubisoft sued by Patrice Désilets over rights to 1666

Yesterday the gaming world learned that Ubisoft’s spat with Patrice Désilets was going to a whole new level. According to the French Canadian newspaper La Presse, Désilets put in a legal petition to sue the publisher for up to $400,000 and the ability to purchase the rights and materials for his latest game, 1666.

Games for the Masses has always been my attempt at populism, and while I usually take this time to adopt a goofy Russian accent and play faux communist to add a bit of flavor, I think I’m going to take this chance to get on my soap box instead. There’s still a ton of good deals this week, and you’ll find them below, but I’m going to talk–just a bit–about why I feel so strongly on the subject of used game sales. Anybody who’s seen my Twitter knows what side I’m on here, but they might not know why. This isn’t anything like a rational argument, merely an explanation of why it’s so important to me.
