Naughty Dog talks Uncharted 4 multiplayer framerate and microtransactions

Naughty Dog gave fans their first glimpse into Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’s multiplayer mode at Paris Games Week, and now we know a little bit more about the mode from a technical standpoint, as well as how the in-game economy will work.

Speaking to GameSpot, Naughty Dog’s Robert Cogburn explained that the multiplayer mode of Uncharted 4 will run at 900p and 60 frames-per-second. This is different than the 1080p/30fps that the single player campaign will run at, as the studio believes that it is the best way to offer the smoothest experience for competitive play.

Alongside the technical information, Naughty Dog confirmed that players can use real money to unlock weapons, tools, and upgrades in Uncharted 4’s multiplayer mode if they don’t feel like earning the in-game currency required to unlock them otherwise. Cogburn did make it clear that nothing in Uncharted 4 would require utilizing these microtransactions as the game will “have no gameplay items that will be gated through” them, as anything can be unlocked through the money you earn by playing the multiplayer mode.

While Uncharted 4 isn’t coming out until March 18th, fans will have a chance to play the game’s multiplayer mode from December 4th to 13th if they own a copy of The Nathan Drake Collection.
