Silent Hills’ cancellation “makes no f*****g sense,” according to Del Toro

Famed horror film director, Guillermo del Toro, believes that his now-cancelled joint venture with Hideo Kojima, Silent Hills, would have been a “remarkable” game and is puzzled as to why publisher Konami decided to cancel the project.

Speaking in an interview with Bloody Disgusting, Del Toro explains that the duo had “hundreds” of designs for the game and a “great experience.” Del Toro goes on to explain that he later saw some of the designs being used in Silent Hills in games such as The Last of Us, leading him to believe they were on the right track with the project.

“The thing with Kojima and Silent Hills is that I thought we would do a really remarkable game and really go for the jugular,” Del Toro said. “We were hoping to actually create some sort of panic with some of the devices we were talking about and it is really a shame that it’s not happening. When you ask about how things operate, that makes no fucking sense at all that that game is not happening.”

This isn’t the first time Del Toro has opened up about the cancelled project. Speaking to IGN a few months prior, he said that he would love to still do the project, if possible, and has even spoken to Kojima about how he would be happy to continue “if anything can be rescued.”

Konami officially cancelled Silent Hills amongst much speculation that the project had been canned. Speaking in a statement to Kotaku, a representative for the company said that the publisher is still commited to the franchise, “however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued.”
