Capture Deep FAITH War – Friday Kickstarter Tabletop Update

Hello! Welcome to Friday Tabletop Kickstarter Update! For info on what is going on here, check out this introduction. For some interesting looking projects, see below.

Remember that I am in no way endorsing these games, I have not played them, I have not talked to the publishers. Back at your own risk.

The Great War
Apparent Weight: Medium-Heavy
Genre: World War I, War game, Hex-and-counter

I am no Wargames expert but I still know of the impact Richard Borg has had on the genre. If you have heard of Memoir ‘44, or better yet his Command and Colors system, then you should be interested in this game. The Great War puts players into the boots of soldiers in World War I, and you can see on the campaign page that Plastic Soldier has not cut any corners on production.

FAITH: The Sci-fi RPG
Apparent Weight: Medium
Genre: RPG in a box, Science fiction, Card driven play

As regular readers know, we don’t cover RPGs very often on this Update, but FAITH breaks the mold of traditional pen and paper role playing games. FAITH is much closer to a full fledged card game, than old school Dungeons & Dragons. Think Pathfinder Adventure Card Game vs. D&D first edition. Check out the page to see the system and the awesome art work.

Capture
Apparent Weight: Light
Genre: Capture the flag, Roll and move, Catapults

I cannot tell if Capture is just a gimmicky capture the flag game, or if there is something more interesting there. Players move their army pieces around a board using an advanced roll and move mechanic trying to capture their opponent’s crowns. The kicker is that players also get to hurl projectiles using real catapults! Well… little plastic ones shooting little plastic boulders. Still catapults!

All Fathomed Out
Apparent Weight: Light-Medium
Genre: Deep sea diving, Exploration, Tile placement, Card collection

Dive in to the depths to look for exotic specimen? Sure, I am in. Presented with an old-timey feel, All Fathomed out has players exploring a stack of ocean tiles. End game scoring is determined by what different spices the players find. I would look in to their gameplay videos to see if this is a game for you.

If you have KS topics that interest you, let me know @Scooter_TTTD

From Trading in the Mediterranean to FPS, I love games. While I grew up in a house without consoles, PC gaming and board gaming were a large part of my formative years, and continue to influence my life. In this golden age of board gaming, I have jumped in headfirst in to anything table top. As a ludilogical student, I love thinking about how games work, their mechanics, their elegance and most importantly, enjoying how fun they are.

Favorite Board Game (at the moment): Twilight Struggle
Favorite PC Game (base solely on play time): Tie between WoW and DII
