Sony is “Embarrassed” by Driveclub’s Server Problems

Sony has stated that it is “embarrassed” by its recent launch problems with Evolution’s racing game Driveclub and its ongoing server issues.

Speaking to IGN, PlayStation UK’s Fergal Gara apologized for the problems players had been having playing Driveclub online, claiming that it was not up to Sony’s standards or messaging for the game to have operated so poorly at launch.

“It’s a disappointment,” Gara began. “When you lay your soul out as being ‘4ThePlayers’, then what you certainly don’t want is games that are not fully ready. It certainly wasn’t any ill-intention on behalf of the team. It’s ambitious as a game; [Evolution is] as embarrassed as we are and all you can do in those situations is say sorry.

“We apologize to any players affected and are doing our damndest to make things right. So that’s what we’ve been doing and the game is pretty near-complete now. We don’t want to introduce the PS Plus Edition until we’re confident the servers can take the load.

“Unleashing it on the millions of PS Plus users is the next step, but we want confidence in the capacity and concurrency figures. I’ll say again: we apologize and are trying to sort it, and we’ll hopefully learn from it so we see it less in future.”

Sony is "Embarrassed" by Driveclub's Server Problems

Initially meant to launch alongside the PlayStation 4 last year, Driveclub suffered a nearly-year-long delay until October of this year. Upon its launch, many players experienced game-breaking online issues, issues that resulted in the delay of the promised PlayStation Plus edition.

Fans are being compensated for the issues with free DLC, but the PlayStation Plus edition of the game has been delayed until further notice.
