TGIF: Gaming Trend’s Weekend Lineup

This is officially the last weekend of summer; time to trade in those sandals and sunglasses for long socks and a jacket. Either that or just stay inside and play video games all Autumn. I vote option two. It’s far less dangerous. Just think what were to happen if one of those falling leaves poked you in the eye, then you’d have wished you’d stayed indoors.

I will be playing Destiny, pretty much exclusively, this weekend. I just unlocked the option to do the weekly Nightfall Strike and the profoundly-discussed Weekly Heroic Raid, which is considered their high-level content, so my level 24 Warlock has his work cut out for him.

In between all the amazing Legendary-loot drops (ha, yeah right) I’d like to mix it up with a certain six shooter wielding, cougar hunting, horseback riding, shoot-10-outlaws-and-gallop-off-into-the-sunset rockstar by the name of John Marsden. I missed out on this one back in 2010 and want to have my time with it before I play the current-gen version of Grand Theft Auto V slated for release November 18.

I’m not proud of it, and I wish I were more creative with my gaming time, but I’m probably going to be playing Destiny again this weekend, searching for legendary loot. I know the big thing right now is farming that engram drop cave on Earth, but my all time favorite thing is dominating zones in the Crucible with my friends. Cool.

I’ve parked Destiny for a little bit in favor of tackling one of the best racing titles I’ve played in recent memory – Forza Horizon 2.  It is a breath of fresh air from the overly-serious racing titles, while still being a pretty hardcore driving game.  It’s got a solid EDM soundtrack to boot.  I can’t talk too much about it before Tuesday, but suffice it to say – I’m excited.

Tomorrow is a bit of a different story.  It’s not what I’m gonna be playing…it’s gonna be what I’m making.  Tomorrow marks the first working session with a friend I’ve known since we were four or five years old.  We are going to make a game together.  Tomorrow is brainstorming, some panel building, and some testing of a card game we already have in the works, but it’s a very exciting time.  I’ve always wanted to do this, and now I’m taking it seriously enough to make it real.

What are you playing this weekend? Tell us in the comments below.

On December 5, 1986, Josh was born into this world pink-faced and squalling. His only thoughts were, "WHAT IS GOING ON? WHO ARE ALL OF THESE PEOPLE? AND WHY THE HELL AM I NAKED?" 19 years later he bought an Xbox 360 and now plays and writes about video games. Life is funny that way.
