Friday Tabletop Kickstarter Update – Full spectrum: filler to heavy minis

Hello! Welcome to Friday Tabletop Kickstarter Update! To make up for a lack of post last week, here are six awesome looking projects. If you are new, you should check out this introduction. In this crazy summer season, things are looking pretty good.

Remember that I am in no way endorsing these games, I have not played them, I have not talked to the publishers. Back at your own risk.

Fidelitas
Apparent Weight: Medium Light
Genre: Card Management, Variable Powers

Two things caught my eye with Fidelitas: the imaginative art, and one of the designers, Phillip duBarry. No to take too much spotlight away from the other co-designer, but duBarry has some great games like Courtier and Revolution under his belt. This looks like a nice light strategy game, good for new players to ease into, but with some strategy for more experienced players.

The Institute for Magical Arts
Apparent Weight: Medium Light
Genre: Simultaneous Play, Area Control

Dr. Steve Finn makes some great games. He was one of the first designers that I started following. Dr. Finn designs solid filler games that are sure to please all gamers. The Institute for Magical Arts looks on par with his previous titles. In this game two players compete to gain tools and alliances. Plenty of information is available on the campaign page if you are interested in more.

Agents of Smersh 2nd Edition
Apparent Weight: Medium
Genre: Story driven Adventure Cooperative Game

Agents of SMERSH is back on Kickstarter to raise funds for a second edition of the successful 2012 first print. In this game players galavant around the world, all spy like, completing missions and adventures to stop the evil Dr. Lobo. SMERSH has been heralded as the king of the thematic games, as it should with a 200+ page encounter book.

Pack O Game
Apparent Weight: Light and Medium
Genre: Multiple Games

Pack O Game is not just one game, but it is up to six games all in a similar, easy to travel, form factor. These games are made up of packs of long narrow cards, with each game looking rather distinct from the others. There is too much to try to cover all of the games, go check out the page!

Dungeon Saga: The Dwarf King’s Quest
Apparent Weight: Medium-Heavy
Genre: Dungeon Crawl, Adventure, Roleplaying

The last two games for this week fill out the update with quintessential miniatures games. Dungeon Saga puts players as adventurers diving deep in to the depths of a dark dungeon. One play mode pits one player controlling the evil powers up against the rest of the players. The creators have also mentioned an advanced role playing aspect with game to game carryover.

Demigods Rising
Apparent Weight: Medium
Genre: Scrimmage miniature combat, Variable game modes

Demigods Rising has some great looking miniatures, if only I had any painting skill. Instead of messing around with story, Demigods gets right to the point with direct scrimmage combat. Players compete to best their opponents on the field of battle. The project page has plenty of rules and video overviews to dispel the common worry of a game-less miniatures project.

If you have KS topics that interest you, let me know @Scooter_TTTD

From Trading in the Mediterranean to FPS, I love games. While I grew up in a house without consoles, PC gaming and board gaming were a large part of my formative years, and continue to influence my life. In this golden age of board gaming, I have jumped in headfirst in to anything table top. As a ludilogical student, I love thinking about how games work, their mechanics, their elegance and most importantly, enjoying how fun they are.

Favorite Board Game (at the moment): Twilight Struggle
Favorite PC Game (base solely on play time): Tie between WoW and DII
