According to Ubisoft’s Yves Guillemot, it looks like Wii U owners shouldn’t expect many of the company’s more “mature” offerings to make their way to Nintendo’s platform.
Speaking with Game Informer, Guillemot revealed that the low sales for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag on the Wii U influenced the company’s decision to no longer bring similar games to the system.
“It’s very simple,” Guillemot says. “What we see is that Nintendo customers don’t buy Assassin’s Creed. Last year, we sold in very small numbers.”
Instead of bringing games like Assassin’s Creed Unity to the Wii U, Ubisoft will only bring games to the platform that seem to interest Nintendo’s current market.
“What we see is that they are very interested in Just Dance, very interested by other kinds of games,” Guillemot says. “So what we are trying to do is to focus more on the types of games they are interested in.”
What does this mean for the previously announced Wii U version of Watch Dogs? It’s still coming, but it will likely be the last game of its kind to come to Nintendo’s console.
“[Watch Dogs] is coming to Wii U,” he assures. “It will be the only mature game we publish on it.”
Recently, Guillemot talked about Ubisoft’s stance on Nintendo, stating that the company would invest in more games for Nintendo’s platform after it achieved more sales, even saying that there is a shelved game tailored for the platform waiting for the system to find a larger market.
