Sony Wary of Having Too Many Remasters on PS4

There’s been a lot of old games coming to PlayStation 4 under the umbrella of “Remasters,” but Sony is cautious about bringing too many to the platform in fear that it will make the current generation just seem like a rehash of the PlayStation 3 era.

Speaking to CVG, Sony’s Jim Ryan has spoken out regarding Sony’s stance on the matter, and thinks that while the recently released The Last of Us: Remastered made sense due to the widely regarded importance of the game, the company is very much wary of doing this far too often.

“One of the things we’ve seen this time around is that people have transitioned from a competitor platform last generation to PlayStation 4 this time around, and to allow those people to be able to experience a game like The Last Of Us, which they weren’t able to last time because they were playing something else, that’s just common sense,” Ryan said.

“But I think it’s got to be looked at very holistically, you can’t have too many of these things otherwise next-gen just looks like rehashed last-gen and we certainly don’t want that.

“I think the balance is just about right but you know, there are other games that could be looked at, but there’ll come a point where next gen will have moved on and rehashing old-gen will have passed its sell-by date.”

The most recent remasters to be announced for PlayStation 4 are the much beloved PS3 games Journey and The Unfinished Swan. Sony has made some comments about the possibility of the first three Uncharted games coming to PlayStation 4 in preparation for 2015’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
