Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain trailer shows torture, exciting game features, horses

Don’t let that little Red Dead Redemption looking cowboy image above fool you – the trailer you’re about to see is actually a bit on the brutal side. It starts out with everything from child soldiers to straight-up war crimes torture (including the most Hippocratic Oath violating operation I’ve ever seen), and then suddenly eases into feature lists like “realistic weather!” and “open-world exploration!” So consider yourself warned before checking this trailer out. For those of you made of a sterner constitution, well… Metal Gear Solid V looks great! Really, an open-world game with the MGS stealth mechanics is promising, and of course you get a peek at the typical pack of entertaining weirdos that comprise the cast of any MGS game nowadays. What I’m saying is, torture aside, this is a great trailer for a game that looks exciting.

It’s the open world promise that really has me excited for Phantom Pain. Whatever you can say about the team behind this series, ‘consistently creative’ is one label that always seems to apply – so just what they manage to do while giving the player that amount of freedom is something I look forward to seeing.
