As previously reported, teamPixel was unable to secure the Homeworld license. However, a recent announcement from Gearbox Software reveals that they are the new owners of this classic space strategy franchise.
Brian Martel, Gearbox Software’s Chief Creative Officer, has great love and respect for Relic’s brilliant, fun and innovative game and personally spearheaded the acquisition. Brian intends as first priority to direct Gearbox’s interest to preserve and assemble the purest form of the original acclaimed and beloved games, Homeworld and Homeworld 2, with the intent of making them accessible on today’s leading digital platforms.
It sounds like we can expect more Homeworld games, although the recent history of Gearbox titles mean that the new games could be good or bad, depending on how committed Gearbox is to the project. The complete details are available directly from the Gearbox website.
