Tuesday, is generally known as new release day in multiple areas of the media industry. From the newest movies, the trendiest music, to the hottest games this day sees most stores flooded with buyers looking to be the first person with the newest toys. So why not announce that you will be taking preorders starting at the end of the month for your newest endeavor?

Razer, recognized as the world leader in gaming hardware, software, and systems, announced on Tuesday that they will be taking preorders for their award-winning Edge tablet starting on Friday March 1, 2013 beginning at 12:01am.

Recognized as the most powerful tablet in the world, the Razer Edge has claimed quite a bevy of awards with eight of them being awarded during the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), including CNET’s ‘Best of Show” by beating more than 20,000 other products in order to claim it. The Edge also claimed this years “People’s Voice” award recipient from the fans, giving Razer three straight years of earning that honor for their products.

“The Razer Edge combines the features of full-functioning PCs, touch-enabled tablets and gaming consoles into one incredible, portable form factor,” says Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder, CEO and creative director. “Furthermore, the Razer Edge’s powerful chipset, unique among all tablet computers, ensures that you can take advantage of the world’s most sophisticated games, programs and apps on these multiple platforms anytime.”

To make sure the Edge would fit the specifications needed to run some of the most advanced games out of the box, Razer made sure to get input from PC gamers through a massive crowdsourcing effort. The company left such decisions as the weight, features, thickness, final chipset, and even the price up to potential customers of the Edge on their social media pages, an unprecedented move for any hardware manufacturer.

What did the crowdsourcing come up with you might ask? Well try on a NVIDIA GeForce graphics chipset powered by an Intel i5 processor with 64 GB SSD For the Razer Edge, or an Intel i7 processor that has the option of 128 GB SSD or 256 GB SSD for the Razer Edge Pro with shipping times of some time late in March. Also available will be a gamepad controller (shown in the above image), home console dock, and an extended battery accessory on the pre-order list with shipping dates concurrent with the Edge on March 1, with an optional keyboard dock slated for a release date some time in Q3 of this year.

With a price tag starting at $999 for the Razer Edge, it may seem daunting for most people looking at getting a tablet. Taking into the consideration that Razer has a fairly good, if not great reputation, with their accessories alone, when you also add in the third generation Intel processor, enough hard drive space to carry around your favorite games, and an NVIDIA GeForce GPU, you know what you’re buying this tablet for and I can tell you now it’s not for playing games on Facebook.
