Planetside 2: 3x Station Cash until tonight, double exp until January 2nd

Santa’s showed up early this year, and he’s in a tank! Sony Online Entertainment’s John Smedley recently tweeted some good news for Planetside 2 players. First up, the triple Station Cash bonus is being extended until tonight. That means that buying 1000 Station Cash at regular price nets you 3000 Station Cash total – an extremely nice deal. Also, exp is being doubled (and this is before premium and boosts are accounted for) until January 2nd, which means that now is the perfect time to get in some kills. “But Victor,” you say. “It’s Christmas. What about spending time with my family?” Easy: get them to make their own Planetside 2 accounts! Better yet, get them to play on opposing teams and then farm them for exp! Show them GT’s Review if they need some convincing! For those of you already intending to take advantage of the Station Cash bonus, I’m going to include my own view on what to prioritize on your weapon shopping spree. After the cut.

Topping the list: anti-air. That means fighter upgrades and some A2A rockets if you’re at all air-inclined, and otherwise the Skyguard turret or the lock-on launchers if you’re more of a ground-game person. Right now air is a considerably powerful asset in this game, and the ability to harass and scare off liberators and air-to-ground fighters is hard to overcompensate for. Also consider picking up the other ant-air arm for the MAX class – two of those and the right support will make air jockeys absolutely hate you.

For those of you more interested in on-foot combat – picking up a combat shotgun is an excellent choice if you don’t have one already. While this exclusively locks you to up close and personal combat when equipped, these really feel like they make a major gameplay difference when going up against enemy ground forces. If anything they’re a bit dangerous, since getting trigger happy with an assault rifle can mean accidentally nicking an ally. With a shotgun, the accidents are more of the ‘Sorry about splattering the lion’s share of your torso on that far wall’ variety. For you guys into sniping, you’ve probably heard about the glory that is a bolt-action rifle – and unless you’re going the cert route, there isn’t a better time to invest in one than now.

By the way, I’m sure most of you are aware of it, but for those of you who aren’t – remember that you can have a weapon trial (including vehicle weapons) every 7-8 hours in PS2. So if you’re not sure a particular gun is right for you, and your cooldown is up, try to buy it and then select the trial option for 30 minutes of hands-on experience.
