PlayStation Plus Subscribers Get Dust 514 Closed Beta Access

The idea behind Dust 514 is a pretty novel one. There’s nothing new about first-person shooters or free-to-play games, but a free-to-play first-person shooter for PS3? This is a game that has had me interested from the start. That’s why I was happy to hear that PlayStation Plus members will get exclusive access to the  Dust 514 closed beta starting August 21st. The closed beta access will last for two weeks, and while users who already havebeta access will still be able to play the game, no new beta codes will be released during that period.

One of the most anticipated titles of the year, DUST 514 brings intense infantry combat, large-scale warfare and deep character advancement to the PlayStation 3 in an exclusive free-to-play massively multiplayer shooter. Set in, and integrated with, the massive universe of EVE Online™, players wage war in the next generation of first-person shooters, where a single victory could prove the crushing blow to a galactic empire of thousands of online gamers.

PlayStation Plus subscribers will also enjoy a 50% discount on Mercenary Packs during the closed beta event, which includes in-game currency, exclusive gear and boosts, and a beta pass that includes access to the Dust 514 beta every weekend until the official launch. In addition to marking the start of the beta access, August 21st is also the release date for the “Precursor” update. Precursor will add plenty of new features, including the first live EVE Online integration, instant matchmaking, and keyboard/mouse support.

Breanna has been gaming since infancy, if gnawing on an unattended controller counts as playing a game. One of the younger members of the Gaming Trend family, she dabbled in PC games as a kid but wasn't fully consumed by the hobby until the sixth generation of consoles. Now an avid PC and console gamer, she looks forward to the day when she can scape together enough cash to join the next gen club.

In the last week of middle school, a math teacher taught her how to program a calculator; she was pretty much hooked then and there. Currently working towards a degree in Computer Science and Applied Math, Breanna hope to someday make games instead of just writing about them. Other hobbies include playing guitar, binge-watching Netflix, and cooking delicious food.
