Do you think you’ve got game when it comes to MLB 2K12 from 2K Sports? You might get a chance to prove it and win a bunch of money in the process. Today marks the official start of the Major League Baseball 2K12 $1 Million Perfect Game Challenge. A special contest mode has been added to the game to allow players to participate in the challenge from today April 4, 2012 until April 30. The top eight players as of April 30 will win an all-expense-paid trip to New York compete in a live tournament for a chance to win $1 Million.
The eight finalists will be determined by a dynamic leaderboard ranking the ‘most perfect’ games thrown. 2K Sports will use an algorithm to rank individual perfect games based on degree of difficulty (such as the opposing team’s offensive prowess and selected pitcher’s skill) and degree of perfection (number of strikeouts, pitching efficiency).
The top eight qualified gamers with ranked and verified perfect games achieved on Xbox LIVE® online entertainment network via the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft or PlayStation®Network via PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system will compete in the final tournament May 9-10 in New York City at the MLB FanCave.
This isn’t the first year that this contest has run, but this time around the rules are a little different. Previous years’ finalists were determined by who achieved a perfect game first, and gamers had to produce a video recording of their gameplay to be eligible. This year there is no video requirement, and the focus is on pitching the most perfect game instead of just the first perfect game. It remains to be seen if these changes will make it easier or harder to win. In any case, good luck to all entrants, and have fun showing off your million to those people who said video games wouldn’t get you anywhere.
