Screen Shot 2012 02 28 at 7.10.53 PM Could Baldurs Gate III (or Baldurs Gate for iOS) Be Coming?

Baldur’s Gate and its expansions and sequel remain today as some of the best computer RPG goodness that you can find, no matter what lovely things the folks at Bethesda and Bioware continue to throw at us.  It still remains one of the best games I’ve ever played, and something I still want to play again, even eleven years later.

Now, it’s 2012, and as reported by the folks over at GameBanshee, there’s something new afoot.  If you go to the Baldur’s Gate webpage, you can hear some familiar music that’s been updated as well as a classic logo.  If you dig a bit further and look at the source code for the site, you will see the following:

<!– Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine –>

<!– For years, I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory. –>

<!– And then… it returned. Better than it was before. –>

<!– Pore over the tapestries and works of art hanging from our walls if you wish, Child of Bhaal… perhaps you will find a clue. But patience, ah… patience would reveal it all. –>

Could we be looking at the rebirth of Baldur’s Gate with a new installment from Beamdog and ex-Bioware developer Trent Oater?  Perhaps a port of the original games (and all of the Infinity Engine titles eventually) to iOS?  The truth is, we don’t know, and Bioware isn’t talking.

What we do know is that Baldur’s Gate II Complete is coming to Steam, and we know due to the article on GameBanshee that this doesn’t relate to that, as he had this to say:

We’re not related to the Steam complete edition, I can tell you that much. Other than that, we’re hoping to announce something soon.

Another tidbit from Twitter comes the following:

A new toy for the office. What could we be developing that would require an iMac? #yeg #gamedev http://pic.twitter.com/V8kd2pIE

One thing is certain:  They’re definitely teasing something, and the source code has changed numerous times.  Personally, I can’t wait to see what is unveiled here.
