Is there any genre better suited for mobile gaming than strategy role-playing games? I don’t know if it’s the stand-alone mission structure, the turn-based progression, or the comparatively low-fidelity graphics most of them employ, but I’ve found that games ranging from Final Fantasy Tactics to Valkyria Chronicles are consistently more engrossing in their portable incarnations. No series exemplifies this effect better than the Disgaea franchise, chock full of efficiency-minded sprites that don’t look so hot on huge modern TVs…but that get a lot prettier on a crisp high-resolution portable screen.

Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention is expected to be released for the PlayStation Vita this spring, shortly after the system launches on February 22nd. That should leave you almost enough time to browse through the full selection of pre-launch screenshots we’ve got below!
