Infinity Blade 2 Coming 12/1/11 for iPad, iPhone. Plus, Infinity Blade Novella!

For all you iPad and iPhone owners who love to get some touch-interface gaming in, be heartened: Infinity Blade, quite possibly the most beautiful iOS game to this day, is going to be getting a sequel. Infinity Blade II is slated for release on 12/1/2011, promising to work in some innovations with the branching-rails melee game. New monsters to face, new gameplay, and something called “Clash mobs”. From the press release itself:

Powered by Unreal Engine 3, the critically acclaimed “Infinity Blade” ushered in a new generation of handheld gaming and became the definitive blockbuster experience on iOS. “Infinity Blade 2” builds upon the addictive gameplay and breathtaking visuals of the original game with dozens of new locations set across expansive 3D environments. Delving further into the story of this mysterious, timeless adventure, players will explore an evolving game world filled with new types of rewards and treasures as they battle scores of new powerful enemies and bosses. New fighting styles and weapon classes coupled with deep role-playing elements provide even greater game play variation. “Infinity Blade 2” also introduces gamers to new online features, such as Clash Mob, in which they’ll participate with fellow gamers in unique “massively social” challenges to unlock rare weapons and exclusive items.

Also announced is an Infinity Blade novella written by Wheel of Time writer Brian Sanderson. I’m personally tempted to pick that up, just because the original Infinity Blade managed to nail the goal of presenting an interesting world, telling you next to nothing about it, but getting the player to develop all kinds of questions about what they were experiencing all the same. But the real meat of this story is Infinity Blade 2 itself – and the good people at Epic have put together a trailer showing some of what we can expect from the sequel. Have a look!
